Growing God’s Kingdom One Family at a Time

Providence Presbyterian Church takes the Gospel Mandate seriously.  When Christ commanded His apostles to teach and baptize the nations, it involved more than bringing the Gospel to individuals (although it is that!): it also entailed the transformation of entire families (Acts 16:15; I Cor. 1:16).  Nations are comprised of individuals (singles) and families (married), both of whom need Christ and His atonement lest they are cast away into everlasting fire.

The importance of the family has been slowly eroded over the centuries. Not only has much of the educational establishment encroached upon parental duty, many churches, institutions and politicians have downplayed or eradicated the definition, responsibilities and goals of the family.  Besides the obvious re-definitions that include wicked homosexuality as inclusive of marriage and family, society has, over the years, already accepted serial adultery (multiple non-Biblical marriages), adultery, single-parentage (via licentious divorce) and various other mutilations. Through the mass media and many public schools, the family has been painted as a cooperative between parents and children (often assuming that the latter are on equal footing in terms of responsibility, intelligence and experience).  Furthermore, the responsibility to control the intellectual, emotional and spiritual intake of children has been challenged in the courts, legislative houses and even in churches.  Often parents are told to “let the professionals handle this.” Many times, they are not encouraged or taught what exactly the responsibility of the parent or the child entails.  Finally, the goal of the family in our hedonistic and materialistic society is to live for themselves or to live for the State. The glory of God and the expansion of the Kingdom are not central.

Providence, through the power of the preached Word and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, strives to be faithful to the Lord Christ Jesus.  Understanding the importance of the family, and its Biblical relation to the Individual, Church and State, we hope to change Denver and expand the Kingdom, one family at a time.
